What Your Certificate Contains

Every sealed document carries a complete, independently verifiable proof chain.

Cryptographic Timestamp

The exact date and time of sealing, embedded as a trusted timestamp per RFC 3161. Independently verifiable by any PDF reader or court expert.

SHA-256 Document Hash

A unique cryptographic fingerprint of your document at the moment of sealing. Any change to the document — even a single byte — produces a different hash, proving integrity.

Swisscom QTSP Certificate Chain

The PAdES/CMS signature chain traces directly to Swisscom Trust Services, Switzerland's leading ZertES-accredited Qualified Trust Service Provider.

Long-Term Validation (LTV) Data

The certificate status is archived at the time of sealing. Your seal remains independently provable decades from now, even after the underlying QTSP certificate expires.

Public Verification URL

A unique link that lets anyone verify the seal's authenticity without creating an account — suitable for sharing with courts, clients, or regulators.

Legal Effect

Every Swiss Trust Layer seal is backed by Swisscom Trust Services — Switzerland's leading ZertES-accredited Qualified Trust Service Provider (QTSP). This gives each seal full legal standing under:

  • ZertES SR 943.03 Art. 14 — same evidential value as a handwritten signature under Swiss law
  • eIDAS Regulation (EU) No 910/2014 Art. 41 — legal presumption of validity across all 27 EU member states
  • Berne Convention — copyright protection recognised in 181 member countries without additional registration

This is not a visual stamp or a simple e-signature. Every seal uses PAdES/CMS-grade cryptographic signing — the same standard used by Swiss government agencies and EU trust service providers.

How It Works — Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to seal a document?

The sealing process itself takes under 60 seconds. From account creation to your first sealed document typically takes under 2 minutes. There is no waiting period, queue, or manual review step.

What file types can I upload?

Any file type up to 500 MB — PDF, DOCX, XLSX, PPTX, ZIP, RAR, MP3, MP4, MOV, JPG, PNG, CAD/BIM files, and any other binary format. The sealing process applies to the raw file bytes, so the format does not limit legal validity.

Do I need a hardware token or smart card?

No. Swiss Trust Layer's e-Seal product operates at the organisational level via Swisscom Trust Services, which manages the QTSP infrastructure. You authenticate via your account — no USB token, smart card, or mobile app is required on your side.

Can someone verify my seal without an account?

Yes. Every sealed document includes a public verification URL. Anyone — a court clerk, client, regulator, or counterparty — can visit the link and confirm the seal's authenticity, the exact timestamp, and the document hash, without logging in.

Quick Answers

How does Swiss Trust Layer work?

Create an account, upload any document (PDF, DOCX, ZIP, audio, video, CAD up to 500 MB), and receive a ZertES and eIDAS certified cryptographic seal in under 60 seconds. No hardware token required.

Is a Swiss Trust Layer seal court-admissible?

Yes. Every seal is backed by Swisscom Trust Services, a ZertES-accredited QTSP, giving it the same legal standing as a handwritten signature in Switzerland (ZertES Art. 14) and across all 27 EU member states (eIDAS Art. 41).

Do I need technical knowledge to seal a document?

No. Uploading a file takes under 60 seconds. The cryptographic sealing, certificate chain, and verification link are all handled automatically by the platform.
