What this answers: this exact file existed in this exact state on that date, and anyone you hand it to can check that independently.

“I made this first.” Hard to say, harder to prove.

Ideas leak

You share a design, a manuscript, a track, a proposal. Weeks later it appears somewhere else. Who created it first?

Email to yourself proves nothing

The “poor man's copyright” of mailing yourself a copy has no defined legal standing in court.

Registration systems stop at borders

A national filing helps you at home. Your work travels further than that.

Three steps to sealed proof

The second step is the only part that involves us.

01

Upload

Any file. It never leaves encrypted storage, and we never read its content.

02

We seal it

A qualified electronic timestamp and seal, Swisscom trust services, ZertES and eIDAS grade, binds your file, your identity, and the exact time.

03

You get a certificate

A public link anyone can check without an account. The proof is verifiable independently of us.

Why the Swiss route matters

Under the Berne Convention , copyright exists automatically in 181 member states. The hard part is not owning the right, it is proving date and authorship when challenged.

A qualified timestamp under Swiss law (ZertES ) and EU law (eIDAS ) is exactly that proof: independent, cryptographic, and recognized as evidence.

Your sealed certificate travels with your work: the same proof whether the dispute is in Zurich, Berlin, Dubai, or beyond.

See it work before you use it

Open a real sealed sample certificate and check it yourself, the same way anyone you send a document to would.

Questions people ask

What is proof of creation?
Proof of creation is dated, verifiable evidence that a specific file existed in a specific state at a specific time. It does not replace copyright, which already protects your work automatically; it gives you something to point to when someone disputes when you made it.
Is a qualified electronic timestamp legally valid?
Yes. Under eIDAS Article 41, a qualified electronic timestamp carries a legal presumption of the accuracy of its date and the integrity of the data it covers. It is built to hold up as evidence, not just as a record.
Does copyright not protect me automatically?
It does. Under the Berne Convention, copyright exists automatically in 181 member states from the moment you create a work, with no registration required. What is missing is proof of exactly when you created it and that the file has not changed since; that is what a sealed timestamp adds.
Is mailing myself a copy enough?
No. The so-called “poor man's copyright” of emailing yourself a file has no defined legal standing in court. A mail server accepting a message says nothing about when the attachment was created or whether it has changed since. A qualified timestamp from a regulated provider is a different, independently checkable record.
Can anyone verify my certificate?
Yes. Verification is public: anyone you hand a certificate to can check it without creating an account and without contacting you first.
Do you see or store my file content?
Sealing works on a cryptographic fingerprint of your file. The fingerprint does not expose your content, and nothing about the file can be reconstructed from it. Storing the original file with us is a separate, optional choice, not a requirement of sealing.
What does it cost?
Pricing is simple, with no minimum commitment. See current pricing at swisstrustlayer.com.
What happens if I lose access to my account?
Start with the helpdesk to begin account recovery. A stronger self-service recovery option, built around identity re-verification, is in development and will be documented here once it ships.
